We are currently seeking highly motivated Screw Machine Apprentices to join our team in Fenton, MO. In our apprenticeship program, you will be mentored by the most skilled, seasoned operators of multiple spindle Acme or Davenport screw machines.  This is an opportunity for individuals to acquire the skills to enjoy the benefits of a professional career in the screw machine industry working for a company with a growth portfolio of products.

We are proud to announce our new Screw Machine Apprenticeship Program! We are looking for a few good men and women that possess a strong mechanical aptitude. We will provide the hands-on paid training and the opportunity to learn a trade, in an industry where skilled machinists are in high demand. Apprentices will start at $12.00-$15.00 per hour depending on current skill level and increase as they transition through levels of skill (Machine Attendant through Setup 3) in our Screw Machine Departments.  Each transition will provide a raise associated with accomplishing that skill set.  Successful Apprentices in the program will be on the path to a career in which they can earn $40,000-$50,000 per year before overtime.

Because this is a path to a career and not just a job, Applicants will be evaluated for eligibility to progress in the career.

What does it take to get into the program?  Applicants must:

  • Be flexible on work hours
  • Pass a basic math test (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Pass a Mechanical Aptitude evaluation
  • Speak English
  • Be Eligible to Work in the US
  • Pass a drug test
  • Have a viable means of transportation to be able to work all scheduled shifts




Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have machining experience?

No. The program is designed to train apprentices without any experience. A person does have to be mechanically inclined and be able to do complete the math.

What if I already have machining experience?

The applicant's experience and competency will be assessed and then they will be placed in the appropriate level of the apprenticeship program.

What is the expected rate of progression?

Training in the program will start day 1.  Our training program is based on computer-based training with hands on machine application & evaluation. 

In the program, you will enter at a Skills Progression 4 and move up as you learn the skills.  The progression levels and average time to achieve are below:

Level 4:  Machine Attendant              Starting Level in Screw Machines

Level 5:  Operator Inspect                  Typically 7 weeks from start

Level 6:  Operator Tool Change          Typically 3 months from start

Level 7:  Setup Prep                             Typically 4 months from start

Level 8:  Setup 1                                  Typically 7 months from start

Level 9:  Setup 2                                  Typically 18 months from start

Level 10:  Setup 3                                Typically 3 years from start

Skill progressions and associated pay increases are based on the pace of learning of the employee.   In addition to the skills pay increases, employees are evaluated on an annual basis for merit increases.




Can I finish quicker?

Yes.  After the initial training, the program pace is based primarily on the individual's ability to learn.  Not all that start at the same time progress together.  Those that can learn the skills faster have the ability to advance at a faster pace.

Do I have to pay for anything?

No.  Apprentices don't pay for anything out of pocket.

Can I start working on 2nd or 3rd shift?

Typically, not at the beginning of the program. First shift is required for initial training. It usually takes employees 3-6 months to go to an off shift.

What else should I know about this career path?

  • -Noisy Environment - We provide earplugs, but the noise level is such that there is no social interaction with workers during shifts. 
  • -Oily environment - You will get oily up to your elbows on a regular basis.  We provide a uniform option to protect your clothing. If you have no problem working on a car, then you should do fine here.
  • - We require both quality and quantity. It's not hard labor, but does require focus, attention and hustle to make quality product in our high production environment. 
  • -This is not a seasonal job, it is full time work.
  • -Good Davenport & Acme Machine operators with experience are never out of work.
