POSITION SUMMARY:

 

 

Plan, layout, and perform difficult machining operations and bench work to construct, alter, repair or manufacture prototype parts, tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, gages, attachments, mechanisms, molds, etc., of complicated and involved design and purpose to close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.  Work with minimum supervision.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Set-up and operate: engine lathe, jig borer, vertical and horizontal mill, single spindle drill press, surface, OD, and pedestal grinder to machine and finish metal components to precise dimensions within exacting tolerances up to plus or minus 0.0002".
  • Determine dimensional allowances and perform bench operations to construct and finish tooling to involve polishing, fitting, aligning, timing, adjusting, and calibrating mechanisms.
  • Produce machine components, tooling, or product prototype samples from prints or sketches provided.
  • Construct and assemble new test and assembly equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Diagnose and adjust plant equipment to maintain proper operation.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair machinery, test and assembly equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Owns own tools and precision measuring instruments and works with same as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

 

  • High School Diploma

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Requires knowledge and experience with machining technology, mechanical principals, metallurgy, advanced shop mathematics, job layout, precision measuring procedures, machine set-ups, and machining characteristics of materials.
  • Ability to conceptualize and visualize operation of appropriate type tooling to accomplish desired end results.

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND TRAITS:

 

  • Five or more years of diversified machining experience.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.
