Plan, schedule, perform maintenance & electrical duties on industrial manufacturing equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations, & verbal & written instructions to keep machinery & equipment in good repair. Maintain & update equipment maintenance historical data. Install & maintain piping systems for air, water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc. Examines, troubleshoots, & repairs mechanical & electrical malfunctions in production machinery & equipment. Plan, layout, and perform difficult machining operations and bench work to construct, alter, repair or manufacture tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, attachments, mechanisms, molds, etc., of complicated and involved design and purpose to close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.

This is a 3rd shift position-- Sunday-Thursday 10:00pm-06:00am; must be able to train on days


  • Works with minimum supervision.
  • May be required to provide technical guidance & assistance to new, less experienced, or lower pay grade maintenance personnel.
  • Perform maintenance tasks that need to be accomplished to provide continuous performance quality, &/or to add new equipment. 
  • Examine machines for defects in operation & replace defective or worn parts, bearings, seals, gears, shafts, cylinders or other parts & sub-assemblies. Diagnoses, replaces &/or repairs electrical components, solenoids, motors, & motor controls. Inspect, sharpen & polish. 
  • Make necessary adjustments to ensure operation in accordance with approved engineering specifications, product requirements, & national safety codes.
  • Perform maintenance work from verbal & written maintenance orders. Review blueprints, service, repair, & operator's manuals, parts & kit lists, electrical schematics, & other technical information for guidance in performing maintenance & repairs on machines & equipment.
  • Fabricate &/or machine equipment & machine parts as required. Obtain part to be fabricated or machined. Note material fabrication & process requirements. Set-up & operate machines incidental to fabricating or machining parts. Select proper raw materials. Set-up & operate lathes, mills, surface & pedestal grinders, drill presses, table & b& saws, acetylene, arc, & electric welding equipment to machine & fabricate parts.
  • Repair or install piping & tubing systems for pneumatics, natural gas, hydraulic, lubricant, coolant, water air, acid, or other fluids. Cut, thread, flare, assemble, & braze pipe or tubing as required. Remove & repair or replace pumps, valves, pressure regulators, filters, strainers, etc.
  • Ensure compatibility, performance quality, & safe proper operations of all circuits. Work with ladder diagrams & schematics to quickly locate & repair malfunctions & breakdowns in all types of industrial logic control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, install, & program Automation Direct or other programmable logic controls as required is preferred.
  • May be required to perform work in other job classifications at same or lower level.

Typical Tools, Equipment, & Materials Used

  • Mechanics' & machinists' tools, such as sockets, open end allen & pipe wrenches, screwdrivers, hammer, tin snips, pliers, files, h& saw, hack saw, clamps, knife, micrometers, vernier calipers, tri-square, tape measure, machinists' scale, dial indicators, etc.
  • Electricians' tools, such as insulation strippers, diagonal wire cutters, cable cutters, knife, screwdrivers, wrenches, needle nose pliers, adjustable pliers, soldering iron, volt meter, amp meter, ohm meter, etc. Owns specified tools & precision measuring equipment, & works with same as required.
  • Engine lathes, vertical & horizontal mills, drill press, surface & pedestal grinders, stationary & portable power saws, b& saws, abrasive saws, portable power drills, hole cutters, pipe threading & cutting equipment, acetylene, arc, & electric welding equipment, gas & electric powered forklifts, scissor lift & air lift scaffolds, cranes, hoists, concrete saws, conduit punches, sand blasters, steam cleaners, air & electric operated pumps, jack hammers, conduit benders, etc.
  • Repair & replacement parts, part kits, switches, relays, electric motors, starters, lighting fixtures, light bulbs, programmable controllers, bearings, pumps, nuts, bolts, rivets, tape, thread sealant, pipe, tubing, angle iron, glue, adhesives, abrasives, coolants, lubricants, grease, cutting oils, batteries, roofing materials, welding rod, welding flux, hazardous chemicals, raw materials like wood, sheet metal, steel, cast iron, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, copper, rubber, plastic, etc.
  • Perform machining operations to close tolerances and finish requirements on steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, etc.
  • Set-up and operate: engine lathe, jig borer, vertical and horizontal mill, single spindle drill press, surface, OD, and pedestal grinder to machine and finish components up to plus or minus 0.0002". 
  • Construct and finish tooling to involve polishing, fitting, aligning, timing, adjusting, and calibrating mechanisms. 
  • Determine proper heat treating specifications and methods to be used on tool steels. Produce product prototype samples from prints provided.
  • Assist in set-up of a variety of special machines. Instruct operators of these machines on care, use, safety, and function.
  •  Operate equipment safely to diagnose operating problems, and to perform cleaning, maintenance, set-up, repairs, or service of tooling, dies, or production machinery to resolve operating difficulties and maintain performance quality in production operations.
  • Proceed on work assignments with minimum supervision. Guidance and direction provided as required.  Assume responsibility for safety of self and others, quality of workmanship, accuracy of dimensions, and mechanical operation of newly constructed tooling, components, or dies.
  • Perform general tool room machinist tasks as required to construct, alter, repair, or manufacture tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, gages, attachments, mechanisms, molds, machines, equipment, etc.


  • HS diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Completion of a four-year accredited journeyman apprenticeship
  • Five or more years of diversified experience machining or die making experience.


  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge to maintain & repair electrical components of machinery
  • Strong mechanical & electrical troubleshooting skills & experience.
  • Knowledge & ability to work safely with high voltage electrical systems up to 480 volts three phase, utilizing extreme care on troubleshooting & repairs where high voltages are involved.
  • Knowledge & ability to safely work with & around various hazardous materials or hazardous wastes. (Will provide OSHA required training)
  • Knowledge & ability to drive powered forklift truck as needed to move or place equipment.
  • Familiarity & practical experience with common equipment & all specialized skills, trades, & technologies that may be required in a manufacturing environment. Thorough working knowledge of mechanical & electrical principals & their application to the safe repair or overhaul of production machines, conveyor systems, machine tools, facilities equipment, etc.
  • Requires knowledge and experience with machining technology, mechanical principals, advanced shop mathematics, job layout, precision measuring procedures, machine set-ups, and machining characteristics of materials.
  • Ability to conceptualize and visualize operation of appropriate type tooling to accomplish desired end results.
  • Requires knowledge of the principals of metallurgy to determine appropriate heat treating methods required on tooling components.
  • Ability to interpret and apply information in manufacturers drawings, specifications, parts lists, engineering drawings, schematics, operation and maintenance manuals, facilities layouts, and other technical information.


  • Capable of operating skillfully & efficiently, all machinists' tools & machines, requiring minimal instruction & supervision.
  • Ability to read English to interpret & apply information in manufacturers drawings, specifications, parts lists, engineering drawings, schematics, operation & maintenance manuals, facilities layouts & other technical information.
  • Occasional heavy lifting & moving required.
  • Must be physically able to safely climb ladders up to 25 Feet high while carrying small tools or light equipment. Able to work safely in high places if required.
  • Ability to quickly learn & apply new technical skills as required.
