POSITION SUMMARY:

 

 

The lean leader is the primary resource for leadership in the lean transformation of the organization.  This role is heavily involved in the teaching, training and reinforcement of lean concepts through classroom and hands on activities.  This leader will be heavily involved in problem solving with teams, fostering the culture of problem solving for continuous improvement.  The individual will be heavily involved in product relocations associated with acquisition activities of the corporation.  Organization and project management skills will be very important to the lean leader, as will communication skills.  The primary role of the individual will be to eliminate waste in the manufacturing operations, but at times, the individual will also support lean office activities.  The vertically integrated Company fosters an extremely dynamic work environment which requires this individual to have a high mechanical aptitude, and demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills.

Control Devices, LLC ("Control Devices" or "CD") is a leading designer and manufacturer of high quality flow control valves, condensate removal traps, related components and accessories serving the compressed air, pressure washer, vehicle systems, fire protection, specialty gas, and the industrial, agricultural and food service float valve markets.  CD prides itself in the ability to design, innovate and manufacture flow control valves for custom applications and offers a line of standard products that has grown over the years.  CD is based in Saint Louis, MO and its products are sold on a global basis to O.E.M's, Distributors and End Users.  

 

Control Devices is a privately owned company with a very seasoned management team focused on organic sales growth with existing products and new revenue growth through acquisitions.

 

 

KEY RESULT AREAS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Works with other functional groups to ensure successful problem solving and project completion
  • Helps develop strategy to resolve manufacturing problems
  • Exhibits a spirit of continuous improvement in all areas
  • Promotes a positive, innovative culture and workplace
  • Implements processes and layouts that promote a safe environment
  • Capable of conducting time studies and setting labor standards
  • Develops and initiates cost reduction, setup reduction, etc.
  • Develops best practices for Lean Manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives
  • Develops and supports various scheduling methods, including Kanban
  • Trains personnel as necessary to maintain integrity of all process
  • Creates and modifies facility layout in CAD
  • Leads process documentation development
  • Assists Product Engineering and Quality in DFM, DFA, FMEA, PPAP.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

 

  • BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Three to five years of experience in a similar or related position
  • Experience teaching and applying Lean principles
  • Demonstrated success in working with multiple functional groups
  • Project management experience
  • Manufacturing experience with metal forming, cutting and assembly

REQUIRED SKILLS:

 

  • Team player with strategic focus interfacing with Manufacturing Operations, Product Engineering, Product Quality and Shop Floor Supervisors and Leads.
  • High energy individual able to multi-task several assignments
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Results oriented with a high commitment level
  • Develops and manage priorities to ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required
  • Good organizational abilities
  • Ability to actively participate in various teams and initiatives
  • Ability to support efforts for continuous improvements in process efficiency and cost reduction
  • Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees
  • Good presentation skills to share ideas and successes
  • Lean Principles including, but not limited to:  Value Stream Mapping, One Piece Flow, Kaizen Leadership, Visual Management, Kanban development, Total Productive Maintenance, Cell Design

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND TRAITS:

 

  • Six Sigma/Statistical Problem Solving
  • SPC/Quality Programs (ISO, TS, etc.)
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Possess a hands-on style with strong mechanical aptitude

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Plant / Office environment
  • Periodic travel required to support acquisition activities
